Personally, I have been affected by the insurance crisis in this country. I have a pre-existing condition that I’ve had since I was 9 weeks old. I had healthcare through my dad’s employer for many years. I has insurance through my employer for a few years while I working then for health reasons I had to leave my job. I went many years without insurance. As a result of this I went into debt. Its not a pretty picture when you have a condition that requires constant attention. Thankfully I had some good doctors that provided me with reduced fees and things of that nature while I was uninsured. Due to a medical emergency I had to get Medicaid which only lasted until the crisis had passed. Its a great fear that you have when you know that you don’t have any really recourse when you’re ill and can’t get treatment due to your heath insurance crisis.
Right now, I have Medicare thankfully to my finally getting disability after fighting for many years. But that ‘s another story.
Right now in my household, I have several family members that are uninsured. One of them has a preexisting condition that prevents them from obtaining insurance. The other cannot afford it.
Its a crisis when someone can’t get health insurance in this country. Thankfully one of my family members has been able to obtain affordable healthcare through a local program. But, if not for this program they might be seriously ill due to lack medication and regular checkups. That is a frightening thought. One I hope doesn’t come to pass.
We need some kind of heath reform. I don’t know what’s the right plan or the way to go about it is but something has to be done. No one should be ill in this country and all alone with the cost of treatment. The prices are too high to have to pay it out of pocket. I have Medicare and still the prices aren’t really cheap. But, its more affordable than nothing. People need change. They need to feel like they can get sick and not have to deal with high costs and lack of treatment options.
That’s the reality of the insurance crisis in my world. Its a uncomfortable feeling when you don’t the cash or health insurance to take care of yourself and your family members.
