Is home where you stow your gear and maybe keep your fluffy pet or goldfish? Or-is it the place where your parents keep your bedroom ready for your next visit? OR is it the bedroom you still live in at your parents or relatives house?
Where is home? Many people say its where your heart is. After doing much thinking about the options I came to some conclusions.
1.) While i do live with my parents and our dog and my brother, this place is really just my physical home. I love my folks with all my heart but to me this place isn’t really home.
2.) The place where I grew up in Virginia surrounded by many relatives and friends isn’t really home to me either. I haven’t lived there full time in years and to be honest the things or people that made it home no longer exist.
So, that doesn’t leave me with many options…..
EXCEPT this One
1.) College-i loved this place and the trees and the people there and while the people i went with are no longer there there is a constant presence there that makes me feel like its home even if i am just passing it by on the street. For you see I was lucky enough to go to a place that is looked after by a group of monks that take very good care of it. That place and the memories it holds for me are HOME. Its the place where i discovered sweet freedom, had many thoughts, danced my first real dance and created friendships that i believe will last a lifetime. That is home. Its the place where i grew in many areas of my life and while i may have been exuberant at times i did learn many lessons and gained a new perspective about many things. I got my love of baseball, my appetite for english history expanded, my understanding of people bettered, and my love of many more things….quenched.
College is indeed my home. No matter what happens I will look back at this place as my home because its there and it exists and dosen’t seem to falter unlike my hometown or the place i live now.
In my heart the Abbey is my home.
Beautiful!
